The first pair of jeans I ever touched as a child — the stiff, raw, rugged feel of unsanforized denim. That deep indigo that clung to my hands, and the unmistakable smell of starch.
Today, jeans are soft, highly stretchable, easy to wear, and often come pre-faded and distressed, as if they’ve already been worn for years. But that’s not what I wanted to create. Rather than gentle, manufactured denim, I wanted to recreate the original spirit of jeans — tough, uncompromising, and raw.
This season makes extensive use of nostalgic, authentic denim discovered in deadstock. We introduce original-weight denims never before used in Workaday: 13oz, 14oz, and 15oz, offered in indigo, black, and khaki. In addition, the collection features 12oz black bull denim, 8-wale khaki corduroy, and military green herringbone twill.
Combined with further refined military and workwear designs developed from last season, these traditional materials represent the very roots of the genre.
They may feel heavy, stiff, difficult to wear, and prone to color transfer — but please wrestle with these pieces until they become an extension of yourself.
